Dr James Naismith created the skillful game of Basket Ball at the high school he attended by the name of Spring Field College. The game was invented because his teachers asked if he could create a sport indoors because their were unfit people at his high school, this sport made them ultra fit.
Dr James Naismith was born in 1862 in Ramsey, and sadly died in 1939. When he was educated in high school his parents and both his grandparents passed away and this left his closest uncle the only one to look after him.
Aside from being the "Father of Basketball," Naismith became the first basketball coach at what is now recognized as a national college powerhouse University. He also was the only Jayhawks coach to leave the school with a losing record, going 55-60 from 1898 to 1907 — 115 games in 10 seasons, 11.5 games a year, on average. James Naismith once remarked that one of the happiest days of his life was when he got to attend the first international basketball game played on the Olympic Games stage in Berlin, in 1936. In a book published in 1995, Naismith was named fourth in a list of the top-100 most influential American sports figures of the century.
Dr James Naismith created a game of fitness and fun. Basketball got people up to get up and fit to improve their health His game of Competition and Cooperation is enjoyed all over the world today.
