French Conversation

The guillotine was invented during the French Revolution.
At the start of the term our team, Team 5, classes had a assembly based on the rugby world cup. We were going to find out what countries our class would be researching for the rest of the term. One of the countries our class had drawn out of the basket was France. We had groups in our class, our group was assigned to study this country.

“Kiaora, sorry, I mean ‘bonjour’. My name is Jonty and I'm from New Zealand Do you know what the capital of this country is?”

“Bonjour, my name is Pierre and you are actually in the capital, Paris! Anyway why are you in France?” kindly asked Pierre.

“I’m a tourist and I am researching this splendid country and I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions.”

“Okay sure, what would you like to ask me?” questioned Pierre

“Thank you, Pierre. What is a popular dish in France and what is it made out of?”

“One of our popular dishes is ‘Escargot’, many french people eat it at restaurants. It is made of cooked land snails. Sounds disgusting but it tastes wonderful!”

“Can you name one of the key players for the French team in the Rugby World Cup?”

“I favour Demetri Yachvili, he is good with the ball and has good sportsmanship.”

“Do you know a major celebration in France and is also annual?”i asked

“Bastille Day, it is to commemorate our French Revolution.”

“I didn't even know their was a French Revolution, when did it happen?”

“The French Revolution was in 1789.”

“Thank you for your helpful information Pierre, hopefully I will see you later on my tour.”

Silly Sports Day

"Line Up room 19!" yelled Mr Harris On Tuesday our class was attending to a Silly Sports day with the other Intermediate classes on the bottom field. There Were going to be games and also wet activities there . "I hope there are going to be some fun Activities i thought to my self.

As we arrived down the bottom field the four of our intermediate teachers set up four well organised games for us to play. The teachers that set it up for us were Mr Harris,Mrs Nua,Mrs Langitupu and Ms Tito first we played a game with Mr Harris. It was about using Team work and communication, the main objective was to balance a tennis ball on a spoon (well holding it) and with your leg tied to your partners leg with a string. you also had to get to the other side and back with out dropping the tennis ball it was probably 50 metres away.My partner was David we kept dropping the ball and going back to the start.
it was very funny.

Mrs Nua ran a Team work and communication game we had to split up into four teams.Too accomplish this game you had too dunk a sponge into a bucket of water then line up your team then pass the sponge under your legs to the next person then pass to the right to the next so it goes under right, under right, under right till you get to the last person he or she has to squeeze that sponge into a bucket at the end what ever team won was with the most water in the bucket at the end.Ms Tito took a game using accuracy and strategy's it was where you had to slingshot different types of balls in a hoola hoop lying on the ground, i had no chance in that game.

My favourtie game of the day was Mrs Langitupu's this was a fun team game you had to get in four even teams i was in the blue team with my mates Tamati,Feki,Tyler,Milleny and cruz it was a funny game you had to tag the other team by passing a ball around and trying to tag the other players well they were running around our team were the champs.

It was a funny and exciting day on tuesday i hope we can do it again.

Cross Country

Have you ever ran or jogged a 3.5 km running track?,I did it was the longest period of time I have ever ran. The year 7s and 8s had cross country a very tiring one, It was very exciting at first then when I got into it I felt exhausted.

Just to start it off Mr Burt lost his wooden clapper, It claps as loud as 60 people clapping at one time. So he actually used his hands just before the clap I had butterflies because my goal was to come in the top 3 I knew this would be a very hard goal. CLAP! off we went you would’t know what I was feeling I can’t explain it, It was like it was the end of the world.

Just turning the first cone I was sprinting already Feki was in front and me and Cruz were far behind him. KEEP GOING!! yelled Mrs George just heading to the footpath I had a stitch but it didn't stop me because champions never give up. After passing a few corners Tamati was a few metres behind me their was approximately 100 meters to go I started to slow down a bit I was coming second at the time. finally the end I finished strong with sweat dripping from my forehead i finished 2nd.

This was a good experience for me running with my mates and having fun, Also This was my first time placing 2nd, It was cross country to remember.

Keep Your Eye On The Ball

We are using the nations of the 2011 Rugby World Cup as our inquiry path.

For this unit we are in one of four teams:
Brumbies, Force, Rebels, Stormers.
My team is the Stormers My prediction on who is going to win the world cup is the All Blacks
they have fast backs and a strong foward pack

There will be a number of tasks for us to navigate to achieve our goal of an excellent result in this unit. There are a mixture of individual and team tasks to be completed. The main task that will show our learning in this unit will be a Hyperstudio presentation about one of the countries in the World Cup competition.

My Furniture Design

For the last few weeks our senior classes have been thinking of furniture designs for our street not the street in our neighbourhood. I mean our street at Pt England School. At Pt England we have a big area called the street it is where our year 7 and 8 classrooms are and where all of us students can relax.

The materials that have been using through out the few weeks are cardboard, masking tape, Newspaper, PVA glue.

It has been fun creating our own furniture designs for the street and I have learnt that after your hard work it can pay off.

Dr:James Naismith

Dr James Naismith created the skillful game of Basket Ball at the high school he attended by the name of Spring Field College. The game was invented because his teachers asked if he could create a sport indoors because their were unfit people at his high school, this sport made them ultra fit.

Dr James Naismith was born in 1862 in Ramsey, and sadly died in 1939. When he was educated in high school his parents and both his grandparents passed away and this left his closest uncle the only one to look after him.

Aside from being the "Father of Basketball," Naismith became the first basketball coach at what is now recognized as a national college powerhouse University. He also was the only Jayhawks coach to leave the school with a losing record, going 55-60 from 1898 to 1907 — 115 games in 10 seasons, 11.5 games a year, on average. James Naismith once remarked that one of the happiest days of his life was when he got to attend the first international basketball game played on the Olympic Games stage in Berlin, in 1936. In a book published in 1995, Naismith was named fourth in a list of the top-100 most influential American sports figures of the century.

Dr James Naismith created a game of fitness and fun. Basketball got people up to get up and fit to improve their health His game of Competition and Cooperation is enjoyed all over the world today.

History of Cars

Cars have gone Bigger, better, faster and stronger from their GPS ,radios wheels and other accessories when Karl Benz had created his first car. The cool thing about it is that it was a 3 wheeler. Henry Ford had created the Cadillac he also had a work shop called the ford motor company .

The first company to build only cars was Panhard et Levassor in France. They started in 1889. Cars have changed over the past hundred years. Modern cars are very different. You would be able to find old cars and nice looking cars now, then just seeing old cars from the past. There are also more car company's then their was in the past.

In Praise Of Adverbs

An adverb supports verbs and gives a bit of detail like where, when and who.
For example: "The volcano is erupting violently."

My Thoughts About Camp

Before Camp:

In one weeks time we get to go to our year 7 and 8 camp. I am very excited to do all of the activities that we will be doing for camp this year. For camp we are going to have a Hangi on the first night.
I’m also looking forward to seeing the camp concert because their are going to be some funny and interesting acts to be performed. we just figured out what groups we were in because we had a meeting yesterday . The group I'm in is the Respectablez my two camp leaders are Feki and Shontal we are going to have a fun camp with them as our leaders.

After Camp
Camp had been tiring waking up at 6:30. We had to do jump jam and go for a bit of a jog, I was like a sloth so tired. There were lots of fun and our hangi was very Delicious. We had to sleep in tents though. My tent partner was Feki. We had lots of junk food to eat during the night, sorry teachers. The activity’s we had done were entirely different from the ones to finish off camp. We had went to Swimarama and it was lots of fun because I got to do some bombs of the diving board. My highlight of camp was playing with my friends, camp was exciting a bit better than last year. I like camp!
